Friday January 27th, 2012 - TOBAGO
1.Susan Phillips of Pump Mill, Scarborough, Tobago. Mother of an 11 year old autistic child. This family lives in a dilapidated concrete structure with inadequate and uncomfortable bathroom facilities.
Through the National Commission For Self Help Limited's intervention, this family received $15,000.00 in building materials for the repair of the house and arrangements were made for a further $10,000.00 in materials to be supplied to upgrade the bathroom's amenities to ensure that this space is more appropriate for females and a differently abled minor.
2.Lisselle Glasgow of Fort Street, Scarborough, Tobago. Mother of a physically challenged child who has never had use of his legs and confined to a wheelchair. This case was brought to the attention of the National Commission For Self Help Limited through the Tobago media – Reporter Elizabeth Williams highlighted this case.
The NCSHL has pledged to support this family with the construction of a wheelchair ramp to the house which will facilitate easier access to the house for the minor. An estimated $........will be provided for the construction of the ramp. A contractor will be assigned to the job.
The Chairman of the Board – Surujdeo Mangaroo and the Chief Executive Officer – Reynold Baldeosingh were on hand to visit both families and present the Purchase Orders for materials.
Both projects will be supervised by Tobago Project Officer – Julien Celestine.
Monday January 30th, 2012
1.Shashie Ramdass of Lp 64, Soriah Trace, Brazil Village. Roof blown off on January 21st, 2012 due to high winds. The applicant is a 29 year old labourer and lives in the 20 x 30 concrete structure with his wife and 8 year old son.
The materials valued at $20,000.00 was distributed by the Chief Executive Officer – Reynold Baldeosingh and falls under the newly established Emergency Relief & Repair Grant (ERRAG) which is targeted towards providing emergency assistance to families suffering damage to their homes through natural disaster.
Also on hand for the presentation was the Honourable Jairam Seemungal – Member of Parliament For La Horquetta/Talparo.
2.Community Development Fund Outreach Programme – Point Fortin/Cedros
Project Officer Rampersad Lutchman participated in the CDF's Outreach Programme at the Guapo Community Centre. Mr. Lutchman made a presentation outlining the NCSHL's programmes and the relevant brochures and forms were distributed to the members of the public in attendance. A question/answer session followed his presentation and inquiries/queries regarding our programmes were taken with a commitment to follow up on these matters.
A live stream of the event was broadcasted on the Ministry of Community Development's web page.
An estimated 80 people were in attendance with a target audience of members of the immediate and neighbouring communities, NGO's, FBO's and CBO's.
Ms. Gillian Gill and Mr. Esau Mohammed assisted with the management of the NCSHL Information Desk.

1.Community Development Fund Outreach Programme – continuation
Project Officer Rampersad Lutchman participated in the CDF's Outreach Programme at the Guapo Community Centre.
Mr. Lutchman made a presentation outlining the NCSHL's programmes and the relevant brochures and forms were distributed to the members of the public in attendance. A live stream of the event was broadcasted on the Ministry's web page.
An estimated 60 people were in attendance. The event was again streamed live on the Ministry of Community Development's web page.
Ms. Reshma Gosine and Mr. Esau Mohammed assisted with the management of the NCSHL Information Desk.
NCSHL Hydro Agricultural Project



NCSHL Hydro Agricultural Project.
Through this type of project, the youth have been brought together in a project that is not labour intensive with the opportunity to earn an income.
The self help commission provided the infrastructure for this project a facilitated a hydroponic agricultural training through the run of FP. (Above: NCSHL Director - Petronilla Basdeo plants a seedling.)
Some of the fund of this project were utilized to finance another hydroponic project at the nearby Granville RC School. With this particular project we were able to network resource gained from one project and apply it to the benefit of another
