Structural home repair grants for thirty families - trinidad news

Thirty families from the Port of Spain North/St. Ann’s West District received structural home repair grants

March 27th, 2023: Thirty (30) families from the Port of Spain North/St. Ann’s West District received grants from the National Commission for Self Help Limited (NCSHL) at the Belmont Community Centre, #47 Jerningham Avenue, Port of Spain on Friday 24th March, 2023. Grants distributed were at an estimated dollar value of five hundred thousand dollars ($500,00.00) to aid in structural home repairs to over two hundred and fifty (250) beneficiaries.

The communities impacted were St. Ann’s, Upper Cascade Valley Road, Belmont, Gonzales and East Dry River. These grants were distributed to low-income households, single parents, old-age pensioners, widows and natural disaster victims.

Funds for these grants were allocated through the Commission’s Emergency Repairs Reconstruction Assistance Grant and Minor Repairs Reconstruction Grant, which are managed by the NCSHL, a State Agency of the Ministry of Sport and Community Development.

In delivering the featured address, the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe stated, “The NCSHL is a very important part of my role in the Ministry of Sport and Community Development. Celebrating thirty-six years (36) years this year, no matter the financial and economic challenges faced, the NCSHL has remained a priority for the Government to ensure that we extend this social assistance to those who need it the most.”

Also delivering remarks were Mr. Adrian Winter, Chairman- NCSHL and Alderman Wade Coker, Port of Spain City Corporation.

The Commission remains committed to providing its services to ensure that vulnerable citizens are given the opportunity to improve their standard of living. This ceremony was the sixth Grant Distribution since January 2023 where an estimated dollar value of three million nine hundred and five thousand dollars ($3,905,000.00) was distributed to residents across Trinidad and Tobago.

The delivery of these grants is part of the Commission’s initiative to provide a measure of support to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago while developing a culture of self-help and self-reliance to ensure an improved quality of living for citizens across Trinidad and Tobago.
