March 12th 2023: The National Commission For Self Help Limited (NCSHL) partnered with Cable and Wireless Communications to support single vulnerable mothers across Trinidad in recognition of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023. This year, the theme of the IWD was, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.”

The NCSHL hosted a ceremony to distribute grants, which will benefit forty (40) single-mother households across Trinidad on March 7th, 2023 at the Mt. Hope/Mt. Lambert Community Centre. An estimated dollar value of nine hundred and seventy-thousand dollars ($970,000.00) in funding from NCSHL, was distributed to aid in structural home repairs for single women across Trinidad. In an effort to ensure that our single mothers are given the opportunity to innovate and have a chance at embracing technology, in keeping with this year’s IWD theme, Cable and Wireless Communications/Flow provided forty (40) Samsung Galaxy tablets which were presented to the grant recipients.

The communities impacted were Tabaquite, Lopinot, Oropouche, St. Augustine, St. Joseph, Siparia, Moruga, Mayaro, Port of Spain, Diego Martin and Laventille.

Funds for these grants were allocated through the Commission’s Emergency Repairs Reconstruction Assistance Grant and Minor Repairs Reconstruction Grant, which are managed by the NCSHL, a State Agency of the Ministry of Sport and Community Development. The female panelist was led by the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Sport and Community Development and Member of Parliament for Tobago West, Director Gillian Amoroso- Edwards, NCSHL, Ms. Shermain Wickham- Howe, President, Singles Mothers Association and Ms. Darlene Edwards, Communications Manager, NCSHL.

To every single resilient mother, continue walking in purpose. Your actions are invaluable to your children and future generations. The delivery of these grants is part of the NCSHL’s initiative to provide a measure of support to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago while developing a culture of self-help and self-reliance to ensure an improved quality of living for citizens across Trinidad and Tobago.
